  1. As far as the article goes, I enjoyed it. What JJ (among others) essentially suggests is that cities/regions should return to an earlier era of metro-commerce, a more turn of the century model - small businesses that can interact, support, and build off each other, a tangible and warm business community. Looking at old pictures of Main Streets that once were, I am left to imagine that this is the economic scale that EF Schumacher and J Jacobs were arguing that we return to on a metro-regional level - widespread locally owned small businesses of various types and sizes. Have to say that I agree with them.
